Topographic Relief

fabrication

The inquiry

How might a distant landscape be compressed into a tactile, illuminated field of depth?

Story

Small 3D-printed forced-perspective terrains derived from elevation data and paired with a luminous digital sky. The work is presented here as part of a living system rather than as an isolated product: its meaning comes from the people, practices, and neighboring works that make it useful.

Nubble Light, Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, 1 m DEM, rock-color, depth compression, and 0.2 mm nozzle feasibility were investigated.

Complete one 4x6 relief from source data, document the perspective transform, and test geological coloring and backlighting.
